Crews contain small fire by Horse Creek

SUBLETTE COUNTY – Local fire crews are mopping and cleaning what remains of a small wildfire that broke out near Merna Butte along Pass Creek.

The fire grew to 20 acres after it was spotted on Sept. 15. Airborne help immediately started dropping water buckets on the fire as ground workers struggled to hike to the blaze. Bridger-Teton National Forest confirmed the blaze was contained as of 10:30 a.m. on Sept. 18.

There are no closures in that area but the public is still asked to avoid the area.

An investigation concluded the fire started from a lightning strike that came from a storm on Sept. 12.
