Jenks sets new state record in 800-meters

GILLETTE – Big Piney High School athletes set the bar high at the 2023 State Indoor Track and Field Championships in Gillette on March 3-4.

Senior Colby Jenks shattered the all-class state indoor track record in the 800-meter run in the finals for the event on Saturday, March 4. Jenks captured gold in the 800-meters, hitting the finish line in under 2 minutes at 1 minute, 53.92 seconds.

Jenks beat the runner-up from Torrington by more than 7 seconds.

Rawlins’ Ricky Faure set the previous record in the 800-meter in 2013 at 1:54.25.

Jenks earned 3A All-State honors for his achievement.

Jenks snagged fourth place in the 400-meter finals, clocking in at 51.87 seconds. The senior also bagged fourth place in the 1600-meter run finals at 4:37.72.

Sophomore Addison Losik took 21st place in the finals for the girls’ varsity 400-meter dash, timing in at 1:11.80.

Freshman Kaydence Guest placed 35th in the girls’ varsity 800-meter finals. She posted a time of 2:59.61.
