BPHS duo chosen for Girls State
SUBLETTE COUNTY – A pair of Big Piney High School students have been selected to attend the American Legion Auxiliary Wyoming Girls State session on the campus of Laramie County Community College in Cheyenne, June 6-11.
Autumn Wright and Britney Jones were both chosen for their outstanding achievements within their school and community to represent Big Piney during the 79th annual session. Wright was sponsored by American Legion Auxiliary Dee Fox Post No. 78 Big Piney and Jones was sponsored by the American Legion Auxiliary No. 88 La Barge.
Girls State is an annual program designed as a practical experience in self-government. It was not held in 1944 or 1945 due to World War II. It is nonpartisan and non-political in that no existing party is promoted. The program emphasizes the importance of government in modern life and educates young women in the duties, privileges, rights and responsibilities of American Citizenship.
