Big Piney students well represented at Regional Science Fair

Joan Mitchell photo Zavier Clifford and Jada Banks partnered on their Regional Science Fair Project, The Effect of Historical Drought on Tree Growth in the Bridger-Teton National Forest, and won first place in the plant science category and Reserve Champion overall.

ROCK SPRINGS — Thirteen Big Piney Middle School (BPMS) students travelled to Western Wyoming Community College in Rock Springs on Feb. 2, to present their research at the Regional Science Fair. Fifty-seven students from western Wyoming participated. The following BPMS students qualified for the state science fair to be held at the University of Wyoming in Laramie March 5-7.

Plant Science - 1st place and Reserve Champion Overall

Jada Banks & Zavier Clifford - The Effect of Historical Drought on Tree Growth in the Bridger-Teton National Forest

Animal Science - 2nd place

Dylan Foster and Reba Penfiled - The Effect of Seasonal Change on the Daily Patterns and Duration of Wolf Activities in the Bridger-Teton National Forest

Microbiology - 2nd place

Jocelyn Wilson - The effect of “best by” date on quantity and type of yogurt bacterial cultures in store bought plain yogurt

Engineering - 2nd place

Chelsea Davis, Gerardo Galvan, Cache Hall - Engineering Better Safety Glasses

Other BPMS students who presented their research include Phoebe Jones, Cactus Chrisman, Christian Dennis, Charlie Knotts and Gentri Greene.
