PINEDALE – The Dudley Key Ballfields soccer field is presently out of commission and will not be available for use until further notice.
Last Wednesday afternoon, Pinedale Public Works staff went to the soccer fields to do routine maintenance, and employees noticed parts of the field appeared to have bubbled up. Public Works was unsure if the bubbles were caused by an over-watering problem, as the town had received a substantial amount of rain in the past week, or if there was a larger issue lying under the sod. Employees promptly called Mayor Bob Jones.
Concerned the bubbles were caused by a gas leak, Jones contacted the Sublette County Sheriff’s Office, and Sublette County Emergency Management and Pinedale firefighters were dispatched to the field.
A gas detector was used, and fumes were detected at 60 parts per million. There are no gas lines running under the grass, so a leaky pipe could not be causing the field to bubble up.
