PINEDALE – Two local lawmakers were in town last week to meet with county residents.

Rep. Albert Sommers and Sen. Stan Cooper visited Pinedale on Tuesday night in an event held at Rendezvous Pointe. Despite the small turnout – six people attended the event – the two politicians spoke for nearly an hour.

The event was organized to allow Sommers and Cooper an opportunity to offer a preview of the upcoming legislative session in Cheyenne and also field questions from local residents.

Sommers announced the Joint Appropriations Committee had recently passed a state budget, tweaking the governor’s original proposal. Now, the budget for the 2015-16 biennium will head to the full Legislature later this month for final revisions and ultimate approval.

“We’re not in bad shape, there’s not going to have be any budget cuts this time around – from what we’ve been told” Sommers said. “I think there will be a little more money to spread around.”

The recent death of Rep. Sue Wallis – a state representative from Recluse – was also discussed. Both Sommers and Cooper expressed their condolences.
