Most Wyoming reps vote against debt limit

Posted: Monday, Oct 21st, 2013

PINEDALE – Last Wednesday Congress passed and the president signed legislation that funded the government through mid-January and raised the debt ceiling, the country’s borrowing limit, which will allow the government to meet its financial obligations through February. In addition to funding the government, the bill also provides back pay for federal employees and requires basic income verifications for Affordable Care Act subsidies.

Wyoming Sen. Mike Enzi and Rep. Cynthia Lummis voted not to raise the debt ceiling, leaving Sen. John Barrasso as the only Wyoming lawmaker to vote to raise the nation’s borrowing limit.

Enzi voted against reopening the government and raising the debt ceiling because he felt the proposed legislation neither chipped away at the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act legislation nor addressed government spending.
