BIG PINEY – The Big Piney High School Punchers football team clashed with the Hot Springs County High School Bobcats on Friday at Puncher Field. The Punchers were outpaced early in the game but battled back to near even with the Bobcats at halftime. Despite another comeback attempt in the second half, the Bobcats got away from the Punchers to take a 35-19 win.

Early in the game, the Punchers’ defense had a hard time keeping track of the Bobcats and let a few big plays slip. Big Piney trailed early in the game, 14-0. The Punchers followed strong performances from senior running back Tanner Wesley and sophomore quarterback Jordan Banks to fight their way back into the game before halftime.

The Punchers got on the board late in the first quarter and continued strong play in the second quarter. Thermopolis managed one more score in the second quarter, and the teams went into the half with a very tight score – the Bobcats led 21-19.

In the second frame, the Punchers’ defense came out and played well, stopping the Bobcats’ offense from moving the ball. Big Piney’s offense was rolling again, but turnovers stopped its drives short of the end zone.
