PINEDALE – A new report from Young Invincibles, a national organization “committed to amplifying the voices of young adults,” shows that the unemployment rate for young Wyomingites is more than double the state unemployment rate.
According to the report, the Wyoming unemployment rate for youths aged 16 to 24 sits at 11.1 percent, much higher than the state unemployment rate of 5.4 percent and the national unemployment rate of 7.4 percent.
“Youth unemployment is actually relatively lower in Wyoming than a lot of other states, so it’s doing well comparatively (probably due to the energy boom),” Rory O’Sullivan, Young Invincibles policy director, wrote in an email. “That said, we’ve been through a serious recession that hit young people particularly hard, so it’s not surprising that young adult unemployment in Wyoming remains well above the state and national averages.”
