PINEDALE – Hunting regulations for wolves and mountain lions were the topic of discussion at a Wyoming Game and Fish Department (WGFD) meeting in Pinedale Wednesday evening. The department is proposing a mortality limit of 26 wolves for the 2013 season and is redefining hunt area boundaries for lions.
The WGFD manages a wolf hunting season for the Wolf Trophy Game Management Area (WTGMA) and Seasonal WTGMA (SWTGMA). The department is required to manage a minimum of 100 wolves and 10 breeding pairs in these areas of the state outside national parks and the Wind River Indian Reservation.
In 2012, the WGFD estimated a minimum population of 192 wolves in its management area and set a hunting mortality limit of 52 wolves to reduce to the population to a year-end 172.
