Fred Gurney passed away April 24 at his home in Virginia Beach, Va. He was born to Marshall Gurney and Ona Beck Gurney Sept. 2, 1935, in Big Piney. Fred joined the U.S. Navy just prior to his 17th birthday and retired after 20 years. He then worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 15 years before retiring. He married Ola Marie Moore in Norfolk, Va., on March 15, 1957.
Fred was preceded in death by his wife Ola, parents Marshall and Ona Gurney and sister Lela Sanders. He is survived by his son, Fred (Catherine) Marshall Jr., of Middleburg, Fla.; daughters Candi Rudy, of Sandwich, Mass., and Bonnie (Mike) McGhee, of Virginia Beach; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
He is also survived by sisters Alice (Rodger) Edwards, of St. Anthony, Idaho; brothers Lyle (Glenda) Gurney, of Murray, Utah, and Joe (Connie) Gurney, of Cortez, Colo. Fred chose to not have any services but to be cremated, and his remains will be scattered at his favorite place in Wyoming.
