Mom, Grandma or Charlotte to almost everyone in her adult life, she was always Charlie to some… she was an important part of many children’s lives in Big Piney and Dillon, Mont., for the better part of 64 years.
Charlotte was born on Feb. 1, 1949 at the old Barrett Memorial Hospital in Dillon to James and Betty Scofield.
She attended elementary school in Dillon, graduated from high school in Twin Bridges, Mont., and received her degree in elementary education and a remedial reading degree from the University of Wyoming. Later in her career, she attended the University of Montana Eastern in Billings, receiving her Masters Degree in special education. Her love of working with children found her in Dillon for many years, working in different schools in the Beaverhead and Big Hole Valleys.
