Martha Nannen
Martha Louise Nannen passed away on Feb. 11. She died only days before her 92nd birthday. Martha had resided in Pinedale since 2011. She had previously resided in Reno, Nev., Pensacola, Fla., and Williams, Calif.

Martha was born in 1921 in Powhattan, Kan. and was the oldest of nine children. Her parents, Hans and Frieda Miller, emigrated from Switzerland in 1920. In 1939, she married the love of her life, Louis Curtis Nannen. They had three daughters, Susan Eversull of Pinedale, Darlene Jenkins of Yuba City, Calif., and Dixie Erwin of Hinsdale, Ill.

On the urging of her friends, Martha ran for and was elected to the office of county clerk and recorder of Colusa, Calif. She served in this role with distinction for more than 17 years.

Throughout her life, Martha was active in church, her community and many other civic activities. She was an avid baker, a gifted seamstress and was unequaled as a mother. Later in life, she traveled frequently and developed deep and on-going relationships with her Swiss relatives. Martha was known for her determination and her amazing strength of will and character. She has been an inspiration to multiple generations of her family and could always be counted on to say exactly what was on her mind.

Her three daughters and their loving husbands, 10 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and her two sisters, Betty and Ruth, survive Martha. Martha was preceded in death by her sisters, Marie, Evelyn, Shirley, Donna and Virginia, as well as the two most important men in her life. The first of these was her husband of 56 years, Louis, with whom she shared a lifetime of love, partnership and laughter. The second was her only brother, Major General Donald Miller, whom she and her husband helped raise.

A memorial service was held in Pinedale on Feb. 14. A second memorial service will be held in Williams, Calif., in the spring.
