Called to Heaven at such a young age, our beloved Cassie Jo Merkel passed away peacefully at the age of 28 on Jan. 3, 2013. Cassie was a free spirited, full of life, loving and caring wife, daughter, sister, aunt, niece and friend. Her smile would brighten a room and her laugh was contagious.
Cassie was born on Jan. 21, 1984, in Jackson Hole, Wyo., and lived in Big Piney and Casper. At the age of 2 she moved to Albuquerque, N.M., where she grew up with her parents and three sisters. Cassie excelled in the sport of race walking throughout her childhood, but once in high school quickly found a love for cheerleading. Of course, this bubbly cheerleader stole the heart of the high school quarterback, Ted Merkel, who later became her husband on Feb. 10, 2007.
Cassie was not only loved by many, but was the love of her husband’s life. Together they loved spending time with family, spoiling nieces and nephews and being with each other every moment they could. They enjoyed years of NASCAR, UFC fights and Nebraska / OU football (Boomer Sooner!). Cassie also loved playing with her beloved 25-pound cat, Gizmo. She was one of the most selfless, kindhearted women that touched so many hearts and will be forever loved and missed. We love you, our angel, Cassie Jo!
Cassie joined our beloved Nana and Papa in Heaven and is survived by her husband Ted Merkel, her mother and father Ken and Jamie (Carr) Woodley, her three sisters Rojan (Sean) Agahi, Jenny Woodley and Brandy (Brian) Loseke. She is also survived by her nieces Alexus Woodley and Gracie Mae Loseke and her nephews, Landon, Darius and Daxton Agahi. She is also survived by aunts and uncles Terry and Shannon Reach, Kandy Woodley Berry and Danny Wilson and cousins Jordan (Janelle) Reach, Amber (Jason) Faigl, Josh (Jenny) Wilson, Lindsay Wilson, Kage Berry and Brooke Berry. There are many other in-law and extended family members and friends that Cassie loved and was loved by dearly.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Cassie Merkel Benefit Account may be made at any local Bank of America.
