Give thanks

Give thanks

I stand amazed at all those self-righteous, judgmental, know it all folks who donít have a clue what their own father, brother, uncle or friend went through in Viet Nam. The tragedy of the killings in Colorado got the nationís attention and horrified us all. Yes, it was tragic and horrifying and my heart breaks for the victims and their families. But guess what, your father, brother, uncle or friend spent days, months or years in a war, living each day not knowing if it would be their last, and/ or seeing their closest friends shot, maimed or killed. But they had to get up to a living hell the next day and do it all over again.

So the next time you want to criticize these brave men and women for receiving compensation, which they more than deserve, by God youíd better get down on your knees and give thanks for his or her safe return. And, because heís not missing a limb, wheelchair bound or crippled, donít think for a minute he or she doesnít have scars. I feel every veteran who has served his country in war, for you and me, should be compensated. Weíll never know or understand what they actually went through, but Iíd bet they would do it again Ė for us all.

So when you see a vet, shake their hand and thank them for their service. P.S. Not all wounds are visible.

Respectfully,

Sharon Holmes,

Proud Marine wife,

Pinedale
