Protecting crossing cows

Posted: Monday, Jul 1st, 2013

I would like to take this time to discuss the sheriff’s office here in Pinedale. For several years, we have called them twice per year for assistance in crossing U.S. Highway 191 with 500 head or more of yearling steers, and for all those years, they have been there for us.

When I call dispatch and let them know we will be crossing the highway, they never act as though the whole idea is just an irritant to them. They are always professional and helpful in manner. When the deputies come to help, they don’t just sit on their laurels in the vehicles with lights flashing; they get out and help us across. There has been more than one occasion when we were on the edge of having a stampede in every direction and the deputies step in to help us.

Our local law enforcers are cursed a lot, but I would just like Dave Lankford and all the officers working for us to know we appreciate them.
