Lauding Ray’s accomplishments

Posted: Monday, May 13th, 2013

We would like to publicly recognize Jason Ray for his service to Sublette County as the coordinator of Tip Top Search and Rescue for the past four years. Prior to being coordinator Jason was an active member of Tip Top for ten years. Hearing that Sheriff Dave Lankford asked for Jason’s resignation or else he faced termination without a clear-cut reason was a huge disappointment to us as taxpayers. This results in a tremendous loss to Sublette County and the surrounding areas. Sheriff Lankford is not able to discuss this as it is hidden behind the “personnel” curtain, and isn’t that convenient?

We have known Jason well for many years and have always thought he was perfect for his job at TTSR. He is young and smart and strong. He is honest and hardworking and self-motivated. He is highly skilled in all areas necessary to meet whatever search and rescue task may arise. His experience and extensive knowledge of the backcountry in and around Sublette County give him an extra advantage to do any type of rescue or recovery. Jason also has been asked to participate in many missions outside of Sublette County.

Jason is experienced and/or certified in high angle climbing rescue, helicopter shorthaul, hiking, horses, snowmachines, four-wheelers, skiing, swiftwater rescue and dive rescue. Jason has accomplished great strides in advancing Tip Top Search and Rescue as a team and has been instrumental in many successful technical search and rescue operations including the helicopter shorthaul recovery of a victim of a fall on the top of Gannett Peak.

We have a great deal of respect for all the members of Tip Top Search and Rescue. They are volunteers who go out in all kinds of weather facing many of the dangers of our wilderness backcountry and Wyoming winters for no compensation other than a “thank you.” We send a big Wyoming thank you to all the members of Tip Top Search and Rescue and especially to Jason Ray. Good luck, Jason, on your next endeavor … we know you will be successful at whatever you undertake.

Van and Marilyn Huffman, Pinedale
