Hello Sublette County! I am now in Cheyenne, and ready to begin this new adventure called the legislature. The session is beginning on Jan. 8, and we freshmen are involved in a legislative training from the 3rd through the 5th. There are several large issues facing Wyoming this session, and several interesting bills being introduced. The big-ticket items seem to be whether to increase the fuel tax, whether to increase hunting license fees, budget reductions, healthcare/Medicaid, education accountability, and a lottery bill. I will be serving on the Education and Minerals committees.
There are several other issues and bills being introduced, and I would encourage the citizens of Sublette County to look them up on the State of Wyoming legislative website.
My email address for the session is firstname.lastname@example.org Ė please feel free to contact me.
On the education front, I am concerned that the statewide education accountability statutes have taken the accountability authority away from local districts, and placed in the hands of the state. I believe, for the most part, this has been a mistake. I will be working to get the local districtís voice back into the mix.
