U.S. Sen. Mike Enzi (R-Wyo.) and his wife Diana paid tribute to American veterans and their families by participating in the Nov. 11 United Veteran’s Council Veterans Day events in Casper. Below are excerpts from the speech he delivered as keynote speaker for the events:
“When our Founding Fathers crafted the Charters of Freedom, they knew that the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution and the Bill of Rights would never stand the test of time without the support of a strong and well-organized military. That is why those documents describe the defense of our nation as one of the most important duties of our government.
“Each year on Nov. 11, we come together as a nation to express our heartfelt gratitude and offer a humble ‘thank you’ to our veterans for the countless sacrifices they and their families have made over the years on our behalf. It is because of them that our nation is strong and free, and that our American way of life is protected and preserved.
“Remember to take the first opportunity you have to thank a veteran for what we have received from their efforts. That is why we come together on this day – to acknowledge the many sacrifices our veterans have made on our behalf; and, to express the blessings we have received as citizens of the United States of America. God bless you and those who could not be with us today.”
