PINEDALE – The Pinedale High School boys’ soccer team played its first two matches of the season last weekend. Despite losing both contests, coach John Mivshek said the team played well.

“Overall, I’m very pleased with how we did,” the coach said.

The Wrangler’s roster has changed significantly since last season.

“We lost a lot of kids, not just seniors, but kids who had played from their freshman year,” Mivshek said. “A lot of experience was lost.”

But though some players were lost, new athletes were gained.

“I think this team plays better as a team, but we just don’t have the experience yet,” he said.

Pinedale opened its season on Friday night in an away game at Cody High School.

The match was played in temperatures in the low 20s, with blowing snow.

In the frigid and blustery weather, the Wranglers lost 2-1.

Senior Taner Trujillo scored the Wrangler’s only goal and played a solid game against Cody.

“[Trujillo] always plays excellent,” Mivshek said. “He always seems to be guarding two or three opposing players. He’s one to always have in the middle.”
