PINEDALE – This past week, the Big Piney High School boys’ varsity basketball team continued its winning streak and won two more games, having not lost to an opponent since December. Both games were non-conference, however the Punchers still have the best record in their 2A Southwest conference of 4-0.
On Tuesday, Big Piney faced the 1A Farson-Eden High School Pronghorns in the Puncher Gym and won with a final score of 77-39. On Saturday, the Punchers traveled to Saratoga to play the Saratoga High School Panthers. Once again, Big Piney took home a win with the scoreboard reading 63-50 at the end of the game.
Though the Punchers have several outstanding players, what is most remarkable about the winning team is its depth of skill. Every player exceeds in a particular area and uses their particular strengths to the teams benefit. Of the varsity players, seven are ranked in the top 10 of the 2A Southwest conference in at least one category. Sophomore Jordan Banks and senior Nolan Jones are ranked fifth and six, respectively, for the highest average of points scored per game. Though both players normally bring in 14 points each competition, Banks’ overall shooting average is slightly better once free-throws and 3-point shots are factored in. Sophomore JD Fear dominates on assists and feeds his teammates an average of three assists per game.
