PINEDALE Ė Just days after setting a school record in the 500-yard freestyle, senior Taner Trujillo, deciding the time of 5 minutes, 36.17 seconds wasnít quite good enough, took another two seconds off his time and won the event at the Sublette County boysí swim teamís home meet Saturday.

Trujillo currently sits in fifth place for the conference in the distance swim. The top four have times around 10 seconds faster than he does. Still, itís one of his best events and the one where heís shown the greatest improvement this season Ė he has dropped more than 13 seconds from where he was in December.

Sublette swimmers across the board had drops in time at the two home meets last weekend, three of them earning qualifications, including junior Sam Jones, who scored his first berth at State. He was able to shave around four seconds from his backstroke time to make the qualifying mark.

Junior Sid Fredrickson and senior Cristian Jaime also qualified for new events, bringing Fredricksonís total to seven and Jaimeís to two. Fredrickson had to drop more than five seconds from his previous 200-yard freestyle time to make the grade, which he did on Friday. The next morning, he swam his first 500 freestyle race of the season, qualifying for his seventh event with a fifth-place finish. Fredrickson only has one event left to hit the coveted eight-event mark Ė all the swimming events.
