Punchers reclaim traveling trophy from Wranglers

BIG PINEY – The Big Piney High School Punchers and the Pinedale High School Wranglers met for Sublette County’s annual marquee football event on Friday, the cross-county match-up to decide who would hold the traveling trophy for another year. With both teams coming off homecoming wins and two skilled squads going toe-to-toe, the only question was who wanted it more.

The answer, as the Punchers proved in front of their home crowd, was the boys in red. In a back-and-forth battle with emotions running hot, the Punchers won out with a dazzling fourth-quarter come from behind victory.

Coaches and fans knew they were in for a well-matched contest; Big Piney’s defense is ranked as one of the best in 2A football, and Pinedale boasts a state top-10 all-purpose offense player in senior running back Ethan Egle. Between a stout defense and a potent offense, something had to give.
