BIG PINEY – Last Tuesday, the Big Piney High School girls’ varsity volleyball team hosted its cross-county rival Pinedale High School for the Lady Punchers’ first home game of the season. The following Friday, Big Piney traveled to Cokeville.

Both non-conference games resulted in losses for the Lady Punchers, dropping their overall record to 1-3. The team’s 2A West conference record still sits at 1-1.

With a large crowd and high expectations, the Lady Punchers knew it was going to be a tough match against the Lady Wranglers last Tuesday. In the first set, Big Piney stuck with Pinedale and even led a few times, and it seemed as though the Lady Punchers would take the win. But when the last ball dropped, the end of the first set resulted in a final score of 25-21, in favor of Pinedale. The second set was Big Piney’s worst, as the team watched Pinedale easily reach 25 points, while the Lady Punchers only managed 12. The third and final set was a bit of a comeback, but in the end, Big Piney could not overcome its rival and the final score was 25-20.
