PINEDALE – Over the last week, bicyclists that are part of the Tour Divide competition have been following a route that took them through Pinedale.
The Tour Divide is a race that follows the Great Divide Mountain Bike Route (GDMBR). The route goes from Banff, Alberta to Antelope Wells, N.M. The Grand Depart is in the second week of June, and there is no entry fee or formal registration.
Bicyclists who are competing in the 2,745-mile long race are self-supported. In other words, they are responsible for their own food, water, shelter, bike maintenance, etc. Intervals between services can be well over 100 miles. The competition does not require any set distances a racer must travel daily or any designated rest periods. After the racers depart in mid-June, the clock runs non-stop until they finish.
