PINEDALE – The Wyoming High School Activities Association (WHSAA) Student Advisory Council, a council of 16 students, was first assembled in 2007 to brainstorm ideas on how to improve sportsmanship around the state of Wyoming. This first council established the now well-known, “Join the RIDE” slogan. The acronym “RIDE” stands for respect, integrity, dedication and encouragement.

Now, each year students around the state send in their applications to the WHSAA in hopes of being chosen to serve on the council to continue to promote “Join the RIDE” and run that year’s state summit. Council members serve until they graduate and commit to meeting four times a year in Casper at the WHSAA headquarters.

The annual state summit is one of the council’s largest responsibilities. The council plans the discussion topics and leads discussion groups with their peers from around the state. Schools gather in Casper for one afternoon to learn about and discuss sportsmanship in their school. Each school completes an action plan detailing what they will do to improve their school’s sportsmanship.
