Herman Edwin Albertini, 90, of Rock Springs, Wyo., passed away on Saturday, Sept. 15, 2012 at the Memorial Hospital of Sweetwater County where he had been a patient since Sept. 6, 2012. A longtime resident of Rock Springs and Superior, Wyo., Mr. Albertini died following a lengthy illness.
He was born on Jan. 18, 1922 in Superior, Wyo., the son of the late Serafino and Cristina Menghini Albertini. When his father died his uncle Samuel Albertini helped raise him.
Mr. Albertini attended school in Superior, Wyo., and was a 1941 graduate of the Superior High School. He married Gertrude Trudy Ann Phillips in Rock Springs, Wyo., on July 10, 1948, and she preceded him in death on Jan. 18, 2012.
Mr. Albertini was a United States Army Veteran of World War II. He served under Gen. George Patton at the Battle of the Bulge and at Normandy. Mr. Albertini was employed by the Union Pacific Coal Company and worked many different jobs for them from 1941 until 1962 when the mines closed. He later went to work for the Rauzis as a mechanic and later opened his own business Celebrity Chevron in 1968 and retired in 1979.
He enjoyed spending time with his family at their cabin in Pinedale, Wyo., teaching his children to polka when they were young; he also enjoyed fishing. He was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Community and was an actively retired member of the United Mine Workers of America. He was recently honored for 70 years of service.
Survivors include son Edwin Wayne Albertini and wife Sheila of Rock Springs; daughters JoAnn Gunyan and husband Roger of Rock Springs, Gail Scott and husband Dean and Karen Bartek of Rock Springs; grandchildren Danielle Bernatis and husband Terry, Raymond Scott and wife Kendra, Chris Scott and wife Sarah, Ryan Gunyan and wife Victoria, Brittney Butler and husband Scott, John, Jennifer and Sarah Bartek and companion Robert Romero and Kendra Albertini and Christina Albertini; great-grandchildren Sean and Tylar Blossom, Ray, Kaylee and Ayden Bernatis, Kenidee, Kolbee and Abbi Scott and Palmer Gunyan; sister-in-laws Dorothy Mae Overy of Superior, Annie Phillips and Lilia Albertini of Rock Springs and several nephews and nieces.
He is preceded in death by his parents Serafino and Cristina Menghini Albertini and Samuel Albertini; brother Henry Albertini; sister Emma Albertini; great-grandson Andrew Blossom and great-granddaughter Amber Blossom and his mother-in-law and father-in-law Delmer and Sara Phillips.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Thursday, Sept. 20, 2012, at the Saints Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church in Rock Springs, Wyo. Military graveside services and interment were at the Rock Springs Municipal Cemetery.
His family of Herman Albertini respectfully suggests that donations in his memory be made to Hospice of Sweetwater County, Cowboys Against Cancer or Holy Spirit Catholic Community in Rock Springs, Wyo.
