PINEDALE – Sublette County School District (SCSD) No. 1 will be participating next month in field testing for the Smarter Balance Assessment Consortium (SBAC).
Throughout Wyoming, 18 school districts have signed up to field test the assessment during four testing windows, which stretch from March through the beginning of June. SCSD No. 1 will take part in the third testing window, from April 28 to May 16.
“SBAC is a cooperative effort among more than 20 states to build a comprehensive assessment system that provides educators and parents with the information they need to help all students prepare for success in college and careers,” a Wyoming Department of Education (WDE) release states. “The Smarter Balance field test will ensure that the assessments are accurate and fair for all students. The scale of the field test is unprecedented, involving more than 3 million students and 20,000 schools.”
SCSD No. 1 Superintendent Jay Haranck said the district agreed to participate last year when there was discussion of Wyoming joining the SBAC.
“Doing well on a state assessment means having some knowledge of the state assessment,” Harnack said. “Part of the reason for participating in the field test, at the time, it seemed the Smarter Balance might become the [state] assessment.”
