PINEDALE – Heavy rainfall in LaBarge caused the Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT), Lincoln County and town maintenance crews to come out in full-force from Thursday night and work through the weekend. Flooding, mudslides and fog caused delays and road closures throughout the area.
The National Weather Service estimated three to five inches of rainfall accumulated, more than a third of the town’s average annual rainfall of 8.04 inches, and caused damage to multiple low-lying sections of U.S. Highway 189.
Rainfall began around 3 p.m. on Thursday. WYDOT roadwork crews were called out after a Wyoming state trooper reported flooding around milepost 78. Crews worked around the clock to get wreckage, water and soot off the highway. Though the road was cleared and opened by 10 p.m., damage was just beginning on the drainage culverts at Names Hill and Muddy Creek roads off of Highway 189.
