SUBLETTE COUNTY – The Fourth of July weekend is always a busy one for the Sublette County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO), but this year, it wasn’t for the typical rogue fireworks issues that accompany the holiday. Within days, the SCSO had two recovery operations and three fatal incidents.
After finding missing hiker Randy Udall’s body on Wednesday, the SCSO and Tip Top Search and Rescue were called back into the Wind River Mountains on Saturday to retrieve the body of Randall Strand, 71, of Bountiful, Utah.
The call came in on July 7 around 4 p.m. from a wrangler working for a local outfitter near Spruce Lake. Once Strand was identified and determined to be dead, a SCSO detective was flown to the area for a preliminary investigation, which indicated an accidental cause of death.
