James Udall

PINEDALE – On Friday, June 28, the Sublette County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) received a report that James “Randy” Udall, a hiker from Cardondale, Colo., was overdue from his hike in the Wind River Range.

According to a release from the SCSO, Udall, 61, is considered “an experienced backapcker who has hiked in the Winds many times over the past 30 years.”

Upon receiving the report of the overdue Udall, Tip Top Search and Rescue (TTSAR) and the SCSO began a coordinated search effort to find the hiker using ground teams, as well as aerial sweeps with the SCSO contract helicopter. Saturday, members of the U.S. Forest Service (USFS) joined TTSAR and the SCSO to search an area of approximately 225 square miles.
