PINEDALE – The Sublette County Rural Health Care District (RHCD) board knew it had hurdles to overcome – personnel vacancies in directorships, a malfunctioning electronic medical records (EMR) system, a call schedule leaving staff burned out – but at Wednesday night’s regular meeting in Pinedale, the board was faced with its biggest challenge to date: an anticipated $3.8 million budget reduction.
The budget reduction results from a loss of revenue from the district’s mill levy. Lorraine Gatzke, RHCD chief financial officer, had forewarned the board of declining mill funds this year, and Wednesday night, she gave her initial estimate.
County Assessor Jeness Saxton told the Examiner the reduction is not the result of a decline in the levy itself – that is set by state statute – but a decline in assessed value.
