PINEDALE – Smoke alarms cut the risk of dying in a structure fire in half and are absolutely necessary for safety. Willis Day, fire prevention coordinator and volunteer firefighter at the Boulder Fire Department, has been organizing an effort so any family who cannot afford smoke detectors can receive one for free.
According to Day, smoke detectors are mandatory in the home. He puts it simply.
“They save lives,” he said.
Because of the importance of the simple device, Day has made it his mission to make smoke detectors accessible to everybody, no mater what the family budget is.
